In recent years, Carlos Amorales has investigated the possibilities of color. His latest series, Jungla de estrellas (Star Jungle), uses fragmented abstraction as a visual language. Each canvas begins with collage, a part of the artists’ practice for years, which is itself a repetitive act with cycles of cutting, placing, and pasting. The compositions are highly intuitively guided by aesthetics to formulate indecipherable typography defined by fragmentation.

Bubble Mask is another variation, yet they operate in a different color plane of gradients. Placed in the foreground of the painting, a mask seems to be the most acute part. Yet, a mask conceals something from view to cover up a similar linguistic pattern in the background. The mask also appears in the artist's latest video work as a connector image between two worlds, the digital and physical, articulating current shifts in representation.

In both painting series, Amorales draws from past series like El esplendor geométrico (2015) and La Orgía de Narciso (2020), continuing the explorations of color, space and repetition.

Working on these painting series during the height of the pandemic provided an outlet giving consistency and certainty in the most uncertain time. The practice provided a concentrated emotional and energetic outlet, a routine to get lost and find relaxation by literally bringing order to chaos. The centrality of color allowed Amorales to react to the different stimuli of the various hues while detaching from anxiety-ridden reality.

SUPERFLEX is working on a master plan to build at least 55 km2 of reef along the coast of Denmark

Super Reef: A New Kind of Urbanism

Sometimes, the best way to care for other species is to collaborate with them on new projects. In that spirit, SUPERFLEX is working on a master plan to build at least 55 km2 of reef along the coast of Denmark. Super Reef is a large-scale collective undertaking involving scientists, fish, marine biologists, policy makers, local communities, and seagrasses. Together we can increase biodiversity and imagine forms of symbiotic living.

Super Reef is a new kind of urbanism, premised on an expanded notion of collaboration and knowledge-sharing: between humans as well as between species.

Super Reef is a project derived from the Deep Sea Minding research which was originally supported by TBA21-Academy.

Runo Lagomarsino 'The Square between the Walls' at Lunds Konsthall

Runo Lagomarsino's solo exhibition 'The Square between the Walls' at Lunds Konsthall.

"The Square Between the Walls, Lagomarsino’s solo exhibition at Lunds Konsthall, brings together a group of recent and older works with two new commissions dwelling on his own family’s history and his relationship with Lund. The artist‘s family fled the military regime in Argentina and settled in Lund in the late 1970s. His father found employment with Åkerlund & Rausing (now A&R Carton), where the presses worked around the clock to print cardboard for different sorts of packaging. Two new commissions, Mad Toy and Home Waits for No One (both 2021), are inspired by the Lagomarsino’s memories of visits to this factory with his father.

Visitors to the exhibition also have the unique opportunity to see one of the artist’s earliest works, A Song of Bola de Nieve (1997), a humorous piece in which he sings and simultaneously translates a song from Spanish into Swedish. It is shown together with a number of other recently produced works. His practice relies on the subversive and utterly precise use of language and symbols, and especially their implications for institutions, which is meant to empower viewers and encourage them to reflect on possible, probable and desirable futures."
